Her Story

Hi, I am Zahra!

From the moment I wrote my first book at age eight, I realized that words can do more than just tell a story—they can shift how people see themselves. Black Girl Magic: A Book About Loving Yourself Just the Way You Are started as a way for me to remind myself that I was enough, just as I am. I never expected it to grow into a movement, but hearing from girls across The Bahamas, the U.S., all over Europe, South America, and even Africa —seeing over 1,000 Amazon reviews (a rare feat for a self-published author) —showed me that my voice had power, and I wanted to use it to uplift others.

Now that I’m 13, that mission has only gotten stronger. I started a nonprofit organization called Book Magic Org. because I believe every child should feel seen in the stories they read and every child should be empowered to know their self-worth. We’ve donated books, hosted read-alouds, and partnered with schools and libraries to bring literacy and joy to underserved communities. For me, books are more than just pages—they’re mirrors that help us love who we are, and windows that help us understand the world around us.

As a speaker, I’ve shared this message at TedEd, national conferences, girls’ summits, and classrooms. I love connecting with other young people and reminding them they already have everything they need to shine.

I love books! I love writing and am a published author (see here Books by Zahra)

My dream is to get books into the hands of under-privileged children all over the world.

I am a community advocate and environmentalist! I really believe that we all must do our part to help our community and save the environment we live in, not just for ourselves, but for future generations!
